About INDOT's Rest Areas
INDOT operates 25 rest areas, welcome centers, and truck parking facilities on Indiana’s interstate highways. Located in 17 areas across the state; 8 locations have facilities on both sides, and 9 are on a single side of the interstate.
Each INDOT rest area, welcome center, or truck parking contains parking lots and driveways, various building types, restroom facilities, vending services, and numerous other site amenities. Vending is provided and maintained by Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) division of Blind and Visually Impaired Services in accordance with Indiana Code.
Rest areas, welcome centers, and trucking parking are regulated by the US Dept of Transportation. Multiple federal laws govern the use of these facilities, including restrictions on commercialization and privatization, as well as limitations on access from private businesses or commercial locations via local roads, whether by vehicle or pedestrian walkway.
