Lane Blade Debris Removal System

Submitted by: Brian Hyde & Roy McMillan

This INDOT innovation uses a retractable Lane Blade mounted to the vehicle’s undercarriage, allowing debris to be removed without the operator ever leaving the vehicle. Because debris removal is one of the most hazardous parts of the job, this system significantly improves operator safety. The Lane Blade also functions as a push bumper to help remove stalled or crashed vehicles. In 2024, Hoosier Helpers removed 3,229 items from Indiana roadways, and this innovation keeps employees safely inside their vehicles during hazardous debris calls.
