DEERS
You must be registered in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) to get your TRICARE benefit.
DEERS is a database of information on uniformed services members (sponsors), U.S.-sponsored foreign military, Department of Defense and uniformed services civilians, other personnel as directed by the DOD, and their family members. You need to register in DEERS to get TRICARE.
- Sponsors are automatically registered in DEERS
- Sponsors must register eligible family members
- If both parents are service members, choose one to be listed as the child(ren)'s sponsor in DEERS.
milConnect
When you register on the milConnect website, you can:
- Update DEERS (address, email, phone)
- View or change TRICARE enrollment information
- Find an ID card office
- Sign up for eCorrespondence about changes to your TRICARE coverage
- View personnel information (sponsors only)
- Transfer GI Bill benefits to family members (sponsors only)
- View civilian employment information (Guard/Reserve only–excluding Army, Navy and Coast Guard Reserve)
- View Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance information (except Marines and Coast Guard)

When retired service members and their families become eligible for Medicare based on age, they are not eligible to enroll in TRICARE Prime.

FEDVIP - Vision Benefits
The Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) is available to eligible Federal and U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employees, annuitants, survivor annuitants, and compensationers. FEDVIP eligibility has also expanded to include certain retired uniformed service members, active duty family members and survivors.
FEDVIP vision plans provide comprehensive vision coverage, including routine eye exams and vision correction without a referral. Plans also include low vision exams; eyeglass frames and lenses, or contact lenses instead of glasses, at many eye doctor offices or optical retail stores. In addition, there are lens options such as shatter-resistant polycarbonate, scratch-resistant, anti-reflective, UV coatings, and tinted and progressive lenses; and discounts on laser eye surgery.*
