If you are interested in becoming a client and receiving weatherization services through this program, you must first contact your Local Service Provider (LSP) to apply. After applying, the Local Service Provider will determine if the client is income eligible for the program. If deemed eligible, the client will be placed on a wait list and the LSP will reach out to ask additional questions.
Once your home comes up on the wait list, you will be contacted, and a state-trained energy auditor will be sent to your home to perform a FREE comprehensive energy audit. The results of the audit are unique to each client's home and determine which energy efficiency upgrades will maximize energy savings for the client.
Upon completion of the audit, state-trained contractors will install the energy efficiency upgrades prescribed by the auditor AT NO COST TO THE CLIENT. A final audit will be conducted at the completion of the installation work to ensure the energy efficiency measures installed are operating in such a way to maximize energy savings.

According to the Department of Energy (DOE), families receiving weatherization services see their annual energy bills reduced by an average of about $283 every year, depending on fuel prices. Because the energy improvements that make up weatherization services are long lived, the savings add up over time to substantial benefits for weatherization clients and their communities. Savings will vary by home, and will depend on factors such as the size, type, and age of a home.
The Weatherization Program can serve clients whose household incomes are up to 200% of the federal poverty level or who are deemed eligible for the Energy Assistance Program (EAP), and who have homes that are safe to weatherize.

Along with being income eligible, your home must meet certain conditions to be weatherized. This will be determined by your LSP during an initial step of weatherization.
If your home has been weatherized before through this program, you may not be considered eligible for the Weatherization Assistance Program. Please contact your Local Service Provider to determine your eligibility.

If you have received a letter indicating that your home has either been deferred or denied you must first appeal to the Executive Director of the agency issuing the determination. The letter will contain the appropriate contact information for this person. In your appeal you must identify why you feel the decision was made incorrectly. If incorrect or incomplete information was provided to the auditor during the initial visit, or if conditions have changed since that visit, please provide those specifics.

Please note: Your appeal will not be considered until you have received an appeal decision from the Executive Director of the Community Action Agency which conducted the audit.
Weatherization makes homes more energy efficient through cost-effective home improvement measures that decrease energy use and lower utility bills. These energy efficient measures also help make your home a healthy and safe place to live. Each home is different, so the measures completed on each home vary based on the needs and potential energy savings.

The Weatherization Assistance Program (Wx) provides energy conservation measures to reduce the utility bills of low-income Hoosiers across the state. The United States Department of Energy (DOE) allocates funds to IHCDA for distribution to our network of LSPs to provide FREE weatherization services for qualified Indiana residents. Wx is an income-based program that is open to both renters and owners. This is not an emergency or a home repair program, so things like roofing, siding, and window replacement are typically not allowable expenses through this program.
