Monroe Lake advisories

  • FLOODING UPDATE 7-19-2021: Due to extremely heavy rainfall, Fairfax SRA and Paynetown SRA beaches are currently CLOSED. All boat ramp courtesy docks and public fishing docks are CLOSED at this time. Some county roads that are used to travel around the lake are affected by high water as well. Boaters should use extreme caution due to possible floating debris and hidden obstacles on the lake. All boat ramps and campsites remain OPEN at this time, but water levels continue to rise. Please check back here or on Facebook for updates.
  • Blue-Green Algae: Blue-green algae is at the ADVISORY alert level for the beach at Paynetown SRA beach at MONROE LAKE: Swimming (once the water has receded from flooding) and boating are permitted. Avoid contact with this algae and swallowing water while swimming. Take a bath or shower with warm soapy water after coming in contact with lake water. Do not use lake water for cooking nor bathing and do not allow your pets to swim or drink water where algae are present. Check back for updates Learn more about blue-green algae.
