The January 2016 Indiana Bicentennial Commission meeting was held at the Fort Wayne History Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The National Watermelon Drop is held on the grounds of the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in downtown Vincennes annually on New Year's Eve. The event draws thousands of Hoosiers. A huge constructed watermelon is hoisted by a construction crane to 110 feet. At the stroke of midnight, 16 Knox County-grown watermelons will be released from the bottom of the huge watermelon and fall to the splat form followed by fireworks. The drop is preceded by several forms of entertainment. In 2016, the National Watermelon Drop was Bicentennial themed. IBC Executive Director Perry Hammock was an honored guest at the event.
