Indiana has more than 200 miles of snowmobile trails in the northern part of the state that are open to the public when conditions allow. These trails are provided through a partnership between local snowmobile clubs, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and the Indiana Snowmobilers Association. Additionally, snowmobiling is legal on private property with permission of the landowner and on country roads in certain counties. In all cases, snowmobiles must be registered and should follow all applicable state snowmobile regulations.
Most trails have been leased from private landowners for public use. CONTINUED USE OF THE TRAIL DEPENDS UPON YOUR COOPERATION IN FOLLOWING THESE REGULATIONS:
- ‘Snowmobile trails are open from Dec. 1 to March 31 only when the trail is posted as "OPEN." Please check trail reports before hitting the trail.
- All snowmobiles must be registered. Decals should be displayed on the sled and riders should carry their certificate of registration.
- The use of trails by wheeled vehicles is strictly prohibited.
- STAY ON THE TRAIL; leaving the marked trail is trespassing, and you can be prosecuted.
- All Indiana snowmobile laws must be obeyed.
