Unique Entity ID (UEI)

Unique Entity ID (UEI)

As of April 4, 2022, the Federal government has transitioned away from the use of the DUNS Number and toward the new Unique Entity ID as the primary means of entity identification for Federal awards government-wide.  If you are registered in SAM.gov, you’ve already been assigned a new Unique Entity ID!  It’s viewable in your SAM.gov entity registration record.  Go to FSD.gov and select the green Help on UEI Transition button to learn more.

This session featured updates from OMB and the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Integrated Award Environment (IAE) on the new System for Award Management (SAM) Unique Entity ID.  The presentation targeted towards the recipient community and walked through everything a recipient of Federal awards needs to know in preparation for the transition, including a demo of how to request a new Unique Entity ID (SAM).

FAQs

Q: Why is a UEI important to the LPA?

A: It is important to those LPAs who will be applying to the Local NOFA.  The UEI is required to be listed on all INDOT LPA contracts.  No UEI assigned to your LPA, INDOT cannot enter into a contract with you, which means no funds can be awarded.

Q: May entities utilize the privacy settings in SAM.gov when registering their information?

A: Entities may utilize the privacy setting when registering in SAM.gov.  However, INDOT utilizes information posted in SAM.gov during UEI number searches and to search for relevant Federal Exclusions for the Entities.  If the Entity utilizes the privacy option, INDOT may need to reach out to the LPA and request that the LPA provide data from the system, such as their UEI number.

Q: If the Entity turns on the privacy settings when registering in SAM.gov does this keep private if they have a Federal Exclusion?

A: No, even with privacy settings turned on, if an entity has a Federal Exclusion, it will still be viewable on SAM.gov.

Q: What does my LPA need to do to get an UEI?

A: Read below and go to the links provided for instructions.
