Unlike its federal counterpart, the Indiana Department of Labor does not have authority or responsibility over Workforce Development or Workers' Compensation, each of which exist independently in Indiana.
The Indiana Department of Labor has a proactive focus of prevention, training and good communication with our stakeholders. By collaborating with businesses, labor, trade associations and schools, we are able to serve all three million Hoosier workers, participating and moving Indiana forward.
Our goal is to ensure that by working in Indiana, you have a safe and healthy place to work and that you can go home each night to your family. You have our commitment that as an agency, we are focused on making Indiana safer and more productive, and we are engaged with the business community as well as Indiana’s labor force.
Notwithstanding this, we have a vigorous enforcement program, and are committed to the idea that employers must follow state laws, including wage and hour laws, occupational health and safety and youth employment laws.
From the health and safety consultations and training for small businesses, to the data driven efforts on minimizing injuries and illnesses, to mine rescue training and youth employment education and outreach, we do our best to serve Indiana citizens with professionalism, enthusiasm and compassion.
