Forestry Property Alerts

The following may include road construction advisories, property and trail closures and other notices. Check with the property office for the latest updates.

Clark State Forest advisories

  • This section of trail on Clark State Forest will be temporarily closed on or shortly after September 15. The trail will reopen after the completion of forest management activities.
  • This section of trail on Clark State Forest will be temporarily closed on or shortly after April 14. The trail will reopen after the completion of forest management activities.
  • The Clark State Forest fire tower is closed for improvements. This closure restricts the use of the stairs. Once all improvements are completed, the tower will reopen.

Ferdinand State Forest advisories

  • Beginning on or shortly after Sept. 29, contractors will begin work on the Ferdinand State Forest family campground. The scope of work covers the entire campground. Improvements include improved camping pads, electricity to each site, a comfort station, and new water points. Initially, some of the campground will remain open for use; however, at some point, the entire campground will be closed to allow contractors full access to complete all work. During the period when the campground is still available for use, please understand the contractors will be working and making noise. Please be mindful of the contractors' safety as they work and avoid entering any area where they are working. The project is expected to be completed in early 2026.   • BLUE-GREEN ALGAE: Found in lakes year round. Don't drink the water. Shower after you swim. More information.

Frances Slocum State Forest advisories

  • None at this time.

Greene-Sullivan State Forest advisories

  • None at this time.

Harrison-Crawford State Forest advisories

  • This section of trail on Harrison-Crawford State Forest will be temporarily closed on or shortly after December 5. The trail will reopen after the completion of forest management activities.
  • These sections of trail (closure 1, closure 2) on Harrison-Crawford State Forest will be temporarily closed on or shortly after November 16. The trail will reopen after the completion of forest management activities.

Knobstone Trail conditions

Update: September 24, 2025

Knobstone Trail advisories

  • This section of Knobstone Trail on the Clark State Forest will be temporarily closed on or shortly after September 15. The trail will reopen after the completion of forest management activities.
  • Spring is often accompanied by rain and storms. Be prepared for wetter trail conditions in low lying sections of the trail and the occasional downed trees.

Jackson-Washington State Forest advisories

  • Beginning on or shortly after Sept. 2, the main road providing access to the campground, archery range, Knob Lake, and office will be closed near the entrance off Highway 250 for a culvert replacement project. The project involves replacing three large culverts, one of which is near the entrance of the state forest, that will restrict vehicle traffic into the area for 1-2 weeks. The other culvert replacements will have less impact on access to the area. The entire project is expected to be completed by December.   • Skyline Drive closes after the first snow accumulation until April 1. Contact the Jackson-Washington SF office at 812-358-2160 for details and status updates.
  • Mail Route Road in Washington County, Indiana, on Jackson-Washington State Forest, is a seasonal road. After deer muzzleloader hunting season, the road is closed to vehicles until April. The area remains open to walk-in access. Parking is available at the gate. Call the Jackson-Washington SF office at 812-358-2160 for details and status updates.

Martin State Forest advisories

  • None at this time.

Morgan-Monroe State Forest advisories

  • During periods of inclement winter weather, suggested access to Morgan-Monroe State Forest is through the Main Forest Road off Old State Road 37 or via the Beanblossom Road entrance off Anderson Road. The northern property roads of Rosenbaum Road (also known as Catholic Cemetery Road) and Gose Creek Road are not recommended for travel during or after periods of snow and ice. Doing so will be at your own risk.
  • Hatfield Ridge Road is a gated road that is open only Sept. 1 through Dec. 1, weather permitting, and April 15 through May 30.

Mountain Tea State Forest advisories

  • None at this time.

Owen-Putnam State Forest advisories

  • After deer firearms season, Rattlesnake campground will be closed to vehicles until April. The area will remain open to walk-in access. Parking is available before reaching the entrance gate.

Pike State Forest advisories

  • This section of trail on Pike State Forest will be temporarily closed on or shortly after July 22. The trail will reopen after the completion of forest management activities.

Ravinia State Forest advisories

  • None at this time.

Salamonie River State Forest advisories

  • None at this time.

Selmier State Forest advisories

  • None at this time.

Yellowwood State Forest advisories

  • Beginning on or shortly after August 4, the following trails at Yellowwood State Forest will be temporarily closed to allow DNR staff to perform storm salvage management from the May 16 tornado. Once staff have completed management activities, the trails will reopen. Map of closures.
  • Due to the unexpected closure of the county road that the Tecumseh Trail uses to reconnect with state land to the north and because of No Trespassing signs erected by the railroad for public safety, the Tecumseh Trail is closed at the section shown on the map until further notice.
