- Description
Selmier State Forest is two miles northeast of North Vernon on County Road 350 North. There are 355 acres of multi-use woods with hiking trails and
access to the Muscatatuck River. The property is open daily, sunrise to sunset.Selmier State Forest was donated to the State of Indiana by Stella Selmier on behalf of her late husband, Frank, who had a strong interest in the outdoors. He planted several acres of pine, black locust, black walnut, sycamore, and tulip tree on this property from 1921 to 1934. Most of the property was placed in Indiana’s Classified Forest Program before it became state land in 1944.
- Activities
There are no public restrooms, camping, picnicking, swimming, horse trails or boat launching facilities. Nearby camping is available at Versailles State Park and Muscatatuck County Park.
Fishing
Fishing and access to the Muscatatuck River are available from the forest; species of fish include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, perch, and catfish. A valid Indiana fishing license is required.
Hunting
White-tailed deer, turkey, squirrel, and raccoon are available. A valid hunting license is required.

Hiking Trails
There is a network of trails from which to enjoy Selmier State Forest. Intersection markers have been installed in the interior to guide hikers. The power line corridor is not maintained as a trail, but can be hiked at the user’s own risk. Hikers are advised to wear hunter orange or other bright clothing while on trails during hunting season.
The one-mile Self-Guided Forest Management Trail features tree identification, successional areas, and timber stand improvement practices. The trail forms loop with parking lots to the northwest and southeast. - Maps
