Major Robert D. Simpson
Assistant Chief of Staff Communications and Information Systems in September of 2021. The Assistant Chief of Staff / Communications and Information Systems coordinates for the Superintendent all matters regarding Information Technology and Communications for the Department. With delegated authority from the Superintendent over Information Technology, the Assistant Chief of Staff / Communications and Information Systems analyzes how new technologies can benefit the department while improving existing technology systems and processes to ensure that the Indiana State Police maximizes its IT systems while providing the technological tools needed for the Troopers. The Criminal Justice Data Division is the area under his authority that handles the Indiana Criminal History Repository, the Indiana License to Carry a Handgun Program, the Indiana Data and Communication System (IDACS), and the Indiana Vehicle Crash Records Program as well as all information technology needs of the department.
The Communication Division is the other area under the Assistant Chief of Staff / Communications and Information Systems. The Regional Dispatch Centers and the department’s radio communications make up this division. These two areas are critically important for the department as they ensure timely response to the needs of Hoosiers while keeping our Troopers informed and safe.
