
Travis Sperry attended the Indianapolis Police Department Training Academy in 2000 and served for 25 years before retiring and coming to ILEA. He served in various positions on the agency. He has worked patrol, as an FTO, Vice/Narcotics Detective, Range Staff Firearms Instructor, Academy Instructor, Intelligence Analyst, and Aggravated Assault Detective. Travis was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 and assigned to IMPD Downtown District and later Southwest District as a patrol supervisor. He was also detailed to various task forces and proactive units at times throughout his career.
Travis spent a great deal of his career as part of IPD/IMPD’s Event Response Group (ERG) as a patrolman and a supervisor and took part in the department’s responses to large events across the city, both planned and unplanned. He was also a member of ERG’s tactical component and was the lead supervisor when he retired. Travis has been involved in training on IMPD in various forms for most of his career.
Prior to IPD, Travis served on active duty with the US Coast Guard where he participated in Search and Rescue and Maritime Law Enforcement missions as a small boat crewman and a Boarding Team Member.
Travis and his wife have four children.
