Sheriff William Barnett

Sheriff BadgeSheriff William Barnett
Served 1833-1836

Sheriff William Barnett is possibly buried in the Barnett cemetery using findagrave.com. It says William Barnett was born on September 14, 1804 and died on March 3, 1841 where he was laid to rest in the Barnett cemetery in Howard County, Indiana. After a trip to the Howard County Public Library and found the headstone no longer exists but they did have information on William Barnett being buried in the cemetery. It should be noted Howard County, Indiana did not exist in 1841 but their neighboring county of Clinton did exist. Thru research this is probably going to be the same William Barnett who served as Sheriff in Grant County. Just like Sheriff Benjamin Berry our early sheriff’s were pioneers in our great state and continued to move westward. Due to the many years which have passed since Mr. Barnett’s death it will remain a mystery.
