Chief Deputy Jay Kay of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office has built an exceptional career in law enforcement, one defined by experience, dedication, and a true commitment to public service. He began his career with the Marion Police Department in 1980 and served the community there until his retirement in 2015. Throughout those years, Jay developed a reputation as a highly skilled investigator whose work left a lasting impact.
Retirement didn’t slow him down. Jay continued serving the community as an investigator with the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office, a police officer with Marion Health, and later as an investigator with the Indiana Department of Child Services. Each role broadened his experience and reinforced his passion for protecting others and seeking justice.
Jay is widely respected for his investigative abilities. His attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to see the bigger picture have helped resolve some of the most complex cases. He has a natural talent for piecing together information and following evidence wherever it leads.
Just as important, Jay excels in working with people. He approaches witnesses, victims, and suspects with a balance of professionalism, empathy, and objectivity, earning trust even in difficult situations. That combination has been key to his success throughout his career.
