​Sheriff Fankboner served as Sheriff of Grant County from 1876 to 1878
Sheriff Morris Fankboner carried on the tradition of veterans of the Civil War holding office of Sheriff. According to historical records, Sheriff Fankboner was a Private in Company G in the 153rd Regiment and was Mustard Out of service on September 4, 1865. I was able to locate a short obituary of Sheriff Fankboner.

FANKBONER.
Morris Fankboner, one of the first of Grant county’s sheriffs, died Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter at 111 East Thirteenth street, after an illness of two weeks, aged 76 years, 3 months and 25 days. The ceased had been a resident of Grant county practically all his life, coming here from Ohio when a mere boy. The deceased was the son of George and Sarah Fankboner. The following are left to mourn the death of their brother and father: two brothers, Lewis Fankboner of Fairmount and Joseph Fankboner of Marion; two sisters, Mrs. Eckfield of Ohio and Mrs. M. J. Carr of Marion; two sons, O.C. Fankboner of Marion and G. K. Fankboner of Bay City, Mich., and two daughters, Mrs. Emma C. Park and Mrs. Dephine Stretch, both of Marion. The wife of the deceased died in October, 1906. The funeral will be held Wednesday, time and place to be announced later. Burial in the Gas City cemetery.
