Suicide Prevention

In Indiana, suicide is the second leading cause of death for middle and high school aged Hoosiers. According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, more than 25% of Indiana high school students have seriously considered attempting suicide. In addition, an FBI review of past school shootings discovered nearly half of school-aged active shooters had thoughts of suicide or at-risk behavior.

If you have thoughts of death or suicide, do one of the following immediately:

  1. Contact a doctor;
  2. Go to the emergency room; or
  3. Call or text 988. Or call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433).
