Someone I care about may be suicidal
If you know or suspect someone has begun to think of suicide, it's important to recognize their thoughts for what they are: expressions of a treatable mental health crisis. Most suicides are preventable. Don't let shame or embarrassment stand in the way of taking life-saving action now. Remember, suicide is a permanent solution to a problem that is temporary.
If someone you know or care about is thinking about death or suicide, do one of the following immediately:
- Encourage them to Contact a doctor;
- Take them to the emergency room; or
- Have them call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433).
