Data Requests

The Indiana Department of Education also supports a data request process to provide the public with data that may not be available on the sites above. Interested parties may request access to data using the following address: datashare@doe.in.gov. All data requests must be submitted to this e-mail address. IDOE will review each request to determine if the request can be fulfilled based on the information provided in the request. Please note that fulfillment or denial of data requests will align with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (read more about this act below). Any requests for student level data go through additional layers of review and will likely require a data sharing agreement to be signed in order to fully protect the data.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. ยง1232g, 34 C.F.R. Part 99 permits, but does not require, the disclosure of student level data to organizations conducting studies for, or on behalf of, educational agencies or institutions to:
(A) Develop, validate, or administer predictive tests;
(B) Administer student aid programs; or
(C) Improve instruction.

Any organization conducting a study for, or on behalf of, an educational agency or institution that desires to use student-level data obtained from the Indiana Department of Education must agree to abide by the requirements of FERPA. Failure to comply with the requirements of FERPA may result in a complaint filed with the U.S. Department of Education’s Family Policy Compliance Office (FPCPO) and additional sanctions, including, but not limited to, the denial of future data requests.
