School Counselor

To be a school counselor, one must have: successfully complete a Master’s degree program from an approved school counselor program, or if already degreed, completed additional coursework from an approved school counselor program. One who holds a school counselor license is eligible to serve as a school counselor in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

School Counselor

  • Applicants must have at least a Master's degree to obtain a School Counselor or School Psychologist license.
  • Starting June 1, 2015, applicants for School Counselor’s will be required to take/pass a Praxis Content area test.

School Nurse

To be a school nurse, one must have: (1) successfully met the standards for the school services professional and the national standards for school nurse; (2) obtained a bachelor’s degree from an approved school of nursing program; (3) obtained a registered nurse’s license through the Indiana state board of nursing. One who holds this degree is eligible to serve as school nurse in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school nurse licensure is required for anyone serving as the school health services coordinator.

Once holding and working under an Initial Practitioner License for two years, one may obtain a practitioner’s license when one has: (1) successfully met the standards for the school services professional and the national standards for school nurse; (2) obtained a bachelor’s degree from an approved school of nursing program; (3) obtained a registered nurse’s license through the Indiana state board of nursing

School Nurse:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing which will meet National Standards for School Nurse
  • Registered Nurse’s license through the Indiana State Board of Nursing/IPLA

School Psychologist

To be a school psychologist, one must have earned a Master’s degree from an approved school psychologist program. One who holds this degree is eligible to serve as a school psychologist in prekindergarten through grade 12.

Once holding and working under an Initial Practitioner License for two years, one may obtain a practitioner’s license when one has: (1) successfully completed the residency requirement described in 515 IAC 1-5-3.2.

School Psychologists:

  • Applicants must have a Master’s Degree or Higher in School Psychology.

School Social Worker

To be a licensed school social worker, one must have successfully earned a Master’s degree from an approved school social worker program, or if already degreed, completed additional coursework from an approved school social worker program. One who holds a school social worker license is eligible to serve as a licensed school social worker in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

In order to obtain an Initial Practitioner’s license, one must have: (1) completed a Master's degree or higher degree in school social work; or (2) been recommended for the initial practitioner’s license by the licensing advisor at the approved program; and (3) hold an LSW or LCSW license from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

School Social Worker

  • Applicants must have at least a Master's degree in School Social Work to obtain a School Social Worker License
  • A Valid IPLA license.
