Emergency Alert Task Force

About the Emergency Alert Task Force

The task force evaluated the current alert and warning systems in Indiana that are used to notify residents and visitors of immediate threats to life and safety. The task force provided recommendations to enhance existing systems and additional systems throughout the state. It also recommended alerting guidance and best practices that can be used by local 911 PSAPs and county emergency management agencies.

The task force was led by IDHS and the Integrated Public Safety Commission, with input from municipal and county officials from fire and law enforcement, as well as advisors from the Indiana Geographic Information Office, National Weather Service and cell-phone network carriers.

IDHS Executive Director Jonathan Whitham served as chairman of the task force.
