About the Lift Devices Code Update Committee
The Committee shall review and move to amend (if necessary) the current Draft Proposed Rule updating Safety Codes for Elevators, Escalators, Manlifts and Hoists located at 675 IAC 21 against the most up-to-date versions of the following national codes:
- ANSI A10.4 (Safety Requirements for Personnel Hoists)
- ASME A17.1 (Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, an American National Standard)
- ASME A18.1 (Safety Standard for Platform Lifts and Stairway Chairlifts, American National Standard)
- ASME QEI-1 (Standard for the Qualification of Elevator Inspectors, an American National Standard)
- The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Automated People Mover Standard 21
- ANSI A90.1 Safety Code for Manlifts
- ASME A17.3 (Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators, an American National Standard)
The Committee shall compile a cost benefit analysis and a fiscal impact analysis for the draft proposed rule in accordance with the requirements of Indiana Code 4-22-2-22.8. Committee members shall provide and keep up-to-date contact information (email address and phone number) with the Committee Secretary.
Note: The draft proposed rule adopted by the Committee is just that, a draft proposed rule, and the Commission retains its full rulemaking authority over this matter.
