Who can apply for a Firearm Permit at the Sheriff’s Department?

After applying for the permit online, White County residents that reside in an “unincorporated” area of White County can go to the White County Sheriff's Department to finish the application process. If you live in an incorporated area of White County, then you will need to go to your local police department to finish the application process.

Gun Locks

Gun Locks are provided free via PROJECT CHILDSAFE and can be picked up at the White County Sheriff’s Department. See www.projectchildsafe.org for more information.

The White County Jail is used to house state prisoners, both male and female. A large majority of them are classified as “pre-trial detainees”. It is hereby acknowledged that pre-trial detainees retain most of their individual rights afforded to them by the constitution. Punishment of pre-trial detainees is out of harmony with the 14th amendment to the constitution, which forbids the deprivation of liberty without due process of law. The physical facility of the White County Jail may somewhat limit the rights of inmates, but whenever possible the fullest rights will be afforded to each inmate.

This information is through the courtesy of the White County Sheriff's Department. Anyone who has ever had to call 911 knows the value and dedication of the Telecommunication (Dispatch) Operators.
