PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Scholarship for students planning to teach in a "high-need" field. The Commission defines “high-need” as special education or middle or high school level math or science.
The maximum amount a student may receive is up to $4,000. The amount of the scholarship may vary year-to-year based on the amount of the appropriation and the number of applicants. Scholarships will be disbursed from the student's college financial aid office.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must:
- be enrolled in a course of study that would enable the student, upon graduation, to teach at an accredited school in Indiana in a high-need field - special education or middle or high school level math or science;
- participate in student teaching as part of the student's degree requirements during the semester in which the student applies;
- have earned a cumulative grade point average upon entering student teaching that is required by an eligible institution for admission to the eligible institution's school of education;
- be enrolled at an eligible Indiana institution;
- be an Indiana resident by December 31st the year prior to applying for aid (i.e. December 31, 2023 for the 2024-2025 school year);
- be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen;
- be a first-time undergraduate student;
- student teach at an Indiana school authorized by the Indiana Department of Education;
- meet any other minimum criteria established by the Commission; and
- agree in writing to apply for a teaching position at an accredited school in Indiana following that student's certification as a teacher and, if hired, teach for at least three years.
HOW TO APPLY
Fall 2024 (Application opens July 1, 2024):
- Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at FAFSA.gov.
- Submit a complete Student Teaching Scholarship for High-Need Fields application in ScholarTrack.
- The deadline to submit the FAFSA and the Fall 2024 Student Teaching Scholarship for High-Needs application is September 30, 2024.
- Students will need to a create a Student ScholarTrack Account to complete the application.
- Once logged into ScholarTrack, click “Apply for State Aid” to access the application.
- Students may also click the following link to directly access the application. You will be prompted to log into ScholarTrack: https://scholartrack.che.in.gov/Portal/#/application/341
Spring 2025 (Application opens October 1, 2024):
- Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at FAFSA.gov.
