Megan L. Bennet

Prosecuting Attorney

Megan Bennet has been the Spencer County Prosecuting Attorney since January 1, 2023. Prior to being elected as the Prosecuting Attorney, Megan served as the Spencer County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney from 2019-2022. As a Spencer County native, she graduated from Heritage Hills High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in Organizational Leadership, and Supervision at Purdue University. After graduating from Purdue, Megan received a law degree and certificate in criminal law at Indiana University McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis in December of 2016. Megan has successfully conducted multiple jury trials and led the prosecution that ended with convictions for murder, causing death when operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance in the blood and child molestation. Working alongside victims of crime throughout the criminal justice process has always been a priority during her time as a prosecutor.

Megan enjoys serving her community by being actively involved in the Santa Claus American Legion Auxiliary, Lincoln Land Fraternal Order of Police Associate Lodge, and as a Board member of the Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition.

Eric G. Tempel

Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney

Eric G. Tempel has served as Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Spencer County since January 1, 2023. As a native of Southern Indiana, Eric graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 2015, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science along with minors in Pre-Law, Criminal Justice, and Business Administration.  Eric received his law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2018.

Upon passing the bar exam, Eric returned to Evansville to serve the community at the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office. As Chief Trial Deputy in Vanderburgh, Eric gained extensive litigation experience handling and overseeing thousands of matters in Indiana state courts which he now applies in Spencer County. During his tenure, Eric has become an accomplished trial lawyer while successfully litigating dozens of high-level jury trials. Eric has led and conducted numerous major felony trials that ended with convictions including double murder, murder, attempted murder, criminal confinement, arson, dealing in narcotics, and felony firearm offenses among others.
