The Indiana Advanced Nuclear Ready Communities Program is a first-of-its-kind state designation system that formally recognizes Indiana communities — cities, counties, and townships — that have taken measurable steps to welcome advanced nuclear energy development. The program is administered by the Indiana Office of Energy Development under Governor Mike Braun.
Communities earn one of three tiered designations — Nuclear Aware (Tier 1), Nuclear Prepared (Tier 2), and Nuclear Ready (Tier 3) — based on criteria including stakeholder organization, site readiness, workforce development, and formal agreements with developers. Each tier carries a distinctive badge and a growing set of state and federal resources.
The program launches at a pivotal moment. Indiana's grid is transitioning, data center demand is accelerating, and the PJM–MISO seam creates unique opportunities for baseload nuclear power. Being designated Indiana Nuclear Ready signals to developers that a community is serious, prepared, and worth their investment.
