Social Media Policy
Social media accounts are maintained by Office of Lieutenant Governor to communicate information, announcements, and updates with the public. When comments or replies are enabled, this page operates as a limited public forum. We welcome respectful engagement and diverse viewpoints while maintaining an orderly, civil discussion focused on the subject of each post. All moderation decisions will be viewpoint-neutral and content-neutral to the maximum extent required by the First Amendment.
Permitted & Prohibited Conduct
Comments and replies are generally allowed when they follow the rules below:
- Comments expressing support, criticism, questions, or alternative viewpoints on the topic of the post.
- Civil discussion and debate.
Prohibited (subject to removal, hiding, or blocking):
- Off-topic or unrelated content – Comments must relate to the subject of the specific post.
- Spam or repetitive posts – Including identical or near-identical comments posted repeatedly, commercial advertisements, or solicitations.
- Threats or incitement – Credible threats of expression to inflict evil, injury, damage, intimidation, or statements intended to incite imminent lawless action.
- Obscenity – Material that meets the legal definition of obscenity under the Miller v. California test (prurient interest, patently offensive sexual content as defined by law, and lacking serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value).
- Harassment or targeted abuse – Directed attacks on an individual, doxxing (revealing private personal information), or severe, pervasive harassment.
- Impersonation – Posting as someone else or misrepresenting affiliation with this office/agency.
- Illegal content – Material that violates federal, state, or local law.
- Inappropriate or defamatory content – Content that includes profanity, slurs, inflammatory language, or statements made without proper basis that could harm the reputation of an individual or organization is prohibited.
Note: Political criticism or opinions we disagree with are not prohibited unless they fall into one of the categories above.
Moderation Practices
- Moderation will be applied consistently and without regard to the viewpoint expressed.
- We will hide, delete, or report comments that violate this policy.
- Users who violate this policy will be blocked from our account.
- This policy applies to all users equally, including supporters and critics.
