One of the first institutions created in pioneer settlements was always the church. In Indiana, the fervor of Methodism officially begun in 1794 seemed to travel with the pioneer adventurers and their families. Jennings County’s oldest United Methodist Church, Ebenezer, was begun in December 1816, just like our state. Using Ebenezer’s bicentennial to offer the entire community the opportunity to view a copy of the 21st century’s St. John’s Bible, the first hand illuminated Bible in 500 years, seems an appropriate way to celebrate.
