The public is invited to an Architectural Open House to celebrate the historic campus architecture of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and the Sisters of Providence on October 8. The event is co-sponsored by Terre Haute Landmarks, Inc. Established in 1840 by the Sisters of Providence, the campus retains much of the character of the turn of the century and has been nominated for the National Register of Historic Places. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods chronicles religious and educational history in Indiana. The Open House highlights a collection of buildings designed by four generations of the family of Diederich Bohlen, who established one of Indiana’s foremost architectural firms. During the open house, visitors may tour several selected significant interior spaces, where information about the architects, building styles and history will be available.
