From the late 19th century through the heydays of the 30s-60s, Indiana Avenue was the epicenter of Indianapolis’ African American community and an incredible jazz music scene. IJF’s project celebrates guitarist Wes Montgomery, considered one of the most important voices in jazz guitar that has ever lived and who spent his lifetime playing on the Avenue. A weekend celebration brings to Indiana live performances, symposiums and master classes honoring Montgomery and his impact on jazz music today.
