The real histories of the counties are not found in the early histories that adorn the shelves of local libraries and historical societies. The real history is found in the local newspapers that chronicle the everyday lives, events, businesses and culture of the county. Currently White County newspapers from 1850-today are stored on microfilm reels. With a joint effort by White County Government, Union Twp., Public Library and the White County Historical Society the purchase of digital scanning equipment will at last be able to convert the reels of archived newspaper microfilm and other records to digital formats for today’s computer age. The equipment to be purchased will take digital files and convert them into searchable PDF files. The process will enable these files to become portable to all parts of the county as well as to genealogical and historical researchers.
