The James Whitcomb riley Bicentennial Statue will be erected to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the State of Indiana by recognizing one of its most famous native sons, the Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley. 2016 will also be the 100th anniversary of Riley’s death, so it will be a double commemoration. The Reading with Riley Statue Committee is charged with raising the $40,000 - $45,000 to pay for the creation of this sculpture by noted Indiana artist, Bill Wolfe. The hope is that the funds will be raised in time to have the statue created for an unveiling at the 2016 Riley Festival, held on October 6, 7, 8 and 9, 2016. It will be a major tourist attraction for Greenfield and will be a legacy that will remain in place for hundreds of years.
