A granite monument will be created to celebrate Ripley County’s namesake, Brigadier General Eleazer Wheelock Ripley, who was a hero of the War of 1812 and was later elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. The monument will be placed in the front of the recently-built Ripley County Courthouse Annex on the Courthouse Square in Versailles for all to see and learn about this great man. It will include a short history of his contributions to the United States and his home state of Indiana.
