Legacy Projects > Revolutionary War Patriot Grave Recognition Series Revolutionary War Patriot Grave Recognition Series

This project’s goals are to recognize the Revolutionary War Veterans and to also pay homage to those of Carroll County whose participation in the fight for freedom and detachment from tyrannical British rule contributed greatly to national liberty. Another facet of this project is community action and cooperation between and among various local organizations and to engender more, as it were, unity in the community. The INSSAR maintains a program of systematically recognizing burial sites and documents the contributions of the soldiers http://graves.inssar.org/.

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • I consider the key accomplishments of this project to be bringing the past to the present concerning the contributions of the many Patriot graves in Carroll County and bringing both the SAR and DAR chapters to Carroll County to do so.

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • One of the memorable moments was when Keith Murphy, a descendant of Nathaniel Farmer, attended last year's ceremony and recounted the work of ancestor, Nathaniel Farmer, at Valley Forge with General Washington to secure the nation's freedom.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • There are pertinent documents filed at the Carroll County Historical Society Museum.

  • 20-30 citizens.
