This curriculum explores the rich German heritage in Indiana in celebration of our upcoming 2016 Bicentennial. It will start with the arrival and settlements of German immigrants in the 1800’s and examine the legacy they left in Indiana education, art, architecture, literature, entrepreneurship and the state park system. The curriculum includes guest speakers on various aspects of these topics, and scripted excursions to the southern Indiana-German community of Ferdinand and Brown County State Park, as well as a walking tour of downtown Indianapolis. The curriculum can be used for high school history and social studies programs, heritage organizations, or as individual program presentations.
