Legacy Projects > Save the Bees Indiana Save the Bees Indiana

One in every three bites of food we eat is made possible by bees through pollination. Many people are unaware of how inextricably linked bees are to our food system. Bees and other pollinators are disappearing at an alarming rate. Using a combination of art and science, we’ll educate everyday Hoosiers on how to make the Bicentennial a Beecentennial!

Q&A with Legacy Project Coordinator Jim Poyser

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • We educated thousands of young people on the importance of environmental stewardship when it comes to bee health. Bees and other pollinators are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat. We started hives in four Indianapolis area schools.

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • Indianapolis City Council passing a resolution to support bee health by reducing the use of harmful pesticides.
