Native Americans were forcibly removed from Indiana in early to mid-1800. At that time there were 11 tribes who had established communities across the state. The Indiana Native American Indian Affairs Commission will seek to determine if there is a particular tree that is special to their history or culture, then plant the tree of choice for each of the 11 tribes at Prophetstown State Park in West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County. These trees will symbolize the roots each tribe has in Indiana. In addition, this Commission will erect a plaque that explains their historical connection to this state based upon the story they want shared.
