Gene Stratton-Porter was Indiana’s best known female author, photographer and naturalist. She lived in Geneva for 25 years. She enjoyed watching the chimney swifts in flight while sitting on her front porch. She wrote that you were lucky to have a swift in your chimney. We would like to ensure that someone in 2116 will be able to see them flying over the town. It was discovered that chimney swifts will use free standing man-made chimney swift towers for roosting and nesting. Alexandra Forsythe, 16, is the driving force behind the building of the chimney swift tower in Geneva. The tower will be built 2-3 blocks from Limberlost. We hope that people will learn of this native bird and its declining population and ways we can help save it.
