Amber Alert - TEST

Legacy Projects > Camden Bicentennial Garden Camden Bicentennial Garden

The Camden Bicentennial Garden will be built in downtown Camden, IN. It will celebrate the State Bicentennial by including the State tree and flower as well as a commemorative plaque. Citizens, both young and old, will contribute to the project which is sponsored by the Town Council as well as local organizations. Camden has a long and vigorous history of celebrating its past with outstanding public spaces, and this will add to that heritage.

Q&A with Legacy Project Coordinator Patricia Casserly

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • In addition to highlighting and celebrating the Bicentennial during a well attended evening Garden Dedication, the Town's citizens have a permanent remembrance of this special period of time and occasion. A small garden was designed built which is a community treasurer.

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • The Garden Dedication was a very memorable event. It was very well attended by the citizens who enjoyed children singing patriotic songs, music provided by a local teacher, speeches and the unveiling of a large engraved rock dedicating the Garden to the Bicentennial. A Chinese lantern launch was great fun and brought a lot of enjoyment to the evening.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • The town's web page, townofcamden.org has a section dedicated to the Garden Dedication - please view it if you have the time - and records of planning the event will be kept with the town's records. An album of pictures from the the evening was on display in the town office for citizen enjoyment and is now kept in the file with other information. Pictures of the evening are on the town's web page.
