The Cole Porter Festival begins on Thursday night with our civic theatre, Ole Olsen Memorial Theatre, performing an original review with a cocktail hour preceding the show in our historic train depot. On Friday at 10a.m. and 10p.m., we play a complimentary showing of a classic Cole movie. In the evening, we hold two food events; a Progressive Porter dinner at downtown restaurants, based on the menus Cole served at the Algoniquin Hotel where he lived at the end of his life. We also hold a black tie dinner, where the out of town performers can meet some of their audience. Old Olsen also performs the review, with more performances throughout the weekend.
On Saturday during the day, we provide Music at the Museum with local musicians playing Cole Porter tunes. In Addition, we have bus tours of Cole Porter sites and a multimedia presentation of one part of Cole’s life. In the evening at our fantastic high school, an internationally renowned Cole Porter expert performs. On Sunday, to conclude the festival, we hold a Champagne brunch at the Cole Porter birthplace. We have many Bicentennial additions we are hoping to add to next year.
