As Indiana celebrates its 200th birthday, one prominent star in particular can be deemed Indiana’s Bicentennial Star. 200 light-years away, Scheat is a corner star in the Great Square of Pegasus, the flying horse. The starlight that left Scheat 200 years ago, (light that is traveling 186,000 miles per second) when Indiana became a state is just now hitting our eyes. Chuck Bueter, an astronomy education and public outreach specialist, will lead community activities to promote the state Scheat as Indiana’s Bicentennial Star.
