The Quilt Gardens along the Heritage Trail, <a href="http://www.quiltgardens.com/>, is a free event, open to the public during all daylight hours, from May 30 until October 1 each year. It is the nation’s first ever, spring-to-fall annual attraction of large-scale, blooming quilt gardens and oversized quilt art murals in the seven northern Indiana communities of Bristol, Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury, Nappanee, Shipshewana and Wakarusa. It unifies off of its individuals sites with a shared program embracing each community’s heritage and artistry. It originally began in 2007 as a test project, and has since grown to be one of Indiana’s outstanding events.

Plans are underway for the 2016 Quilt Gardens to have one central theme, the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial, with each site asked to design its Quilt Garden to reflect Indiana’s history and heritage through quilt art forms and gardens.
