The Indiana Album is a community-submitted digital archive of Indiana-related photographs lingering in albums and attics throughout the country. We scan and catalog photographs loaned by individuals, businesses, and organizations. National standards are followed to digitize and create metadata for photographs and postcards of houses, farms, businesses, churches, street scenes, clubs, schools, interesting people, and other subjects that might interest the general public. Images will be searchable through the Indiana State Library’s Indiana Memory database.
The Indiana Album will reach out to Hoosiers throughout Indiana by hosting 24 scan-a-thons in all regions of the state in 2015 and 2016. A pilot project (and similar projects hosted in other states such as the Shades of LA Project and Mass. Memory Road Show) reveals that ethnic groups are less likely to share photographs, therefore we will directly solicit participation from churches or cultural organizations.
