The Lawrence County Legacy Trees would involve students throughout Lawrence County. Students would participate in the planting of two Lawrence County legacy trees; a Tulip Poplar (the state tree of Indiana) and the Space Gum tree (seeds brought into space by Lawrence County astronaut, Charlie Walker). Each tree will have a commemorative plaque honoring the State of Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration and the significance of trees. A map will also be developed of all surviving space gum trees in the state.
