Legacy Projects > 1816: Frontier Fort to Statehood 1816: Frontier Fort to Statehood

Visitors Old Fort Wayne will experience Statehood as it was in 1816. From June 11-12th in 2016, guests will be free to wander the grounds while listening to minstrels play music of the period. In the 1815 Fort, soldiers will explain about their lives and training; weavers will turn wool into fabric and blacksmiths will make every day items of our raw metal.

In 1816, Fort Wayne was the only governmental outpost in existence in northern Indiana. This history is a legacy already and it is a story that needs to be continually told so people will remember our brave pioneers that settled this wilderness Territory which became a state December 11, 1816.
