Legacy Projects > Remember Bourbon Remember Bourbon

Remember Bourbon Logo

Bourbon Public Library seeks to preserve an oral history of the community by starting local conversations with the Remember Bourbon project.  The goal is to create, share, and preserve past and present memories while using technology to connect people.  The Library remains a keeper of history, but also becomes a more prominent place of creation and engagement.  Remember Bourbon will be an integral part of the celebration of the Library’s 75th anniversary in 2015.  Persons of all ages will be encouraged to participate, along with local organizations. Conversations will be shared on social media and accessible at any time on-line. Special viewing events will be held to promote the project and celebrate local history.

Q&A with Legacy Project Creator Heather Barron

What do you consider the key accomplishment(s) of your Legacy Project?

  • The Bourbon community now has an established program to record and share oral histories.

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • Max Weakly, an 89-year old gentleman, and wife and daughter recorded our first session of Remember Bourbon by talking and sharing memories of their lives growing up in the town. The bustling town that they described is a town unrecognizable to most people today. It was a wonderful chance for them to enjoy memories and younger generations to learn about what the town used to be.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • Bourbon Public Library has a YouTube channel. Recorded conversations can be found by searching online for "Remember Bourbon" or the people's names who participated. Videos are also shared on the library's Facebook page.

Total number of volunteers who participated.

  • 9.

Estimated dollar amount spent.

  • $4,000.
