All persons admitted to this facility must be referred by their local Community Mental Health Centers, the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities, or the Office of General Counsel, also known as their “Gatekeeper.” Referrals are reviewed by the hospital medical staff, prior to accepting the patient for placement, to ensure that the specific mental, physical, and emotional needs of the patients accepted can be met by the services provided at this facility. All persons admitted to Richmond State Hospital are admitted under a court-ordered involuntary commitment for treatment. We will constantly seek to maintain confidentiality and obtain consent in all matters. Our goal is to assist the patient in attaining the highest level of independence possible, facilitate his/her returning to the community, and maintain active involvement with the family.
