Visitation information

The NeuroDiagnostic Institute understands that visitors play an important role in an individual’s recovery. To help ensure a safe environment for interactions to occur between patients, visitors, and staff, the NeuroDiagnostic Institute maintains the visitation guidelines outlined below. These guidelines are subject to change.

Visitation guidelines:

  • All visits must be scheduled through the Social Services department at least 48 hours in advance. Social Services team members are available Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00pm, excluding State of Indiana holidays.
  • All visitors must be pre-approved by the treatment team.
  • Visitors under the age of 16 years old may only attend visits if approved by treatment team in advance. Visitors under 18 years of age must be supervised for the duration of the visit.
  • All visitor names must be on the visitation list, and visitors ages 18 and over must show a valid photo ID upon arrival.
  • In hospital visitation can occur between the following timeframes:
    • Youth Patients: 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. EST
    • Adult Patients: Monday – Friday, 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. EST  | Saturday – Sunday | State Holidays, 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. EST
  • Visitation times may be adjusted based on unit needs, if the visit would interrupt assigned therapeutic programming, or based on a specific patient need approved by the NDI treatment team.
  • Visits may be changed or cancelled based on patient behavior.
  • Therapeutic Leave of Absence for community passes, including day and overnight visits, are permitted as approved by the treatment team.
  • Visitors may not bring contraband into the hospital; belongings brought into the building are subject to search.
  • Phones and other electronic devices are not permitted in the visitation spaces.
  • Visitors may only bring food that is prepackaged from a store or restaurant.
  • No coffee or energy drinks are permitted.
  • All food and drink must be consumed during the visit; no food or drinks can be stored.
  • Food provided must be limited to snacks or a single serving meal with a small dessert and small/medium drink at a time.
  • All food and items brought will go through the metal detector with the visitor.
  • No drug/alcohol use is permitted during visits.
  • Visitors who are disruptive during the visitation may be asked to leave the facility at discretion of NDI staff.

The NDI campus is located at 5435 E. 16th St.,Indianapolis, IN 46218.
Free visitor parking is available on the front surface lot of the NDI or in the Community Hospital East parking garage.
Please proceed through the Sally Port entrance located on the northside of the building to pick up patients for community passes.
