Please note that surveillance cameras are on hospital grounds both indoors and outdoors.

Visitors are welcome as a help in the treatment of patients and are especially helpful to the treatment team in maintaining community and family contacts during the hospitalization.

All purses and cell phones must be left in vehicles and are not allowed during visitation.

Madison State Hospital protects the privacy of its patients, in accordance with HIPAA privacy regulations. Individuals must have written authorization from the patient or guardian and be in the switchboard database before being allowed to visit the patient.

Visitation hours at Madison State Hospital are weekend days and holidays, 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Special visitation times can be arranged with prior approval from the treatment team or social service specialist.

No metal cans or glass bottles are allowed on the campus. Visitors will leave all cans and bottles in their vehicles.  Only sealed plastic bottle beverages can be taken to the patient.

Any food/snack items that are brought in by family/loved ones should comply with hospital diet orders for that patient.  Please check with the patient’s unit staff for diet restrictions prior to bringing in any food items. Items need to be limited to an amount that can be consumed during the visitation period.  Food is NOT to be shared with other patients.  Only unopened, sealed beverages, in plastic bottles, are permitted in this facility.  Failure to adhere to these safety requirements may necessitate a limitation of this privilege.
