The Sheriff is a constitutional officer of the county elected for a four-year term. The Sheriff is prohibited from serving more than 8 years in a 12 year period.
The Parke County Sheriff is responsible for the following functions:
- Keeper of the peace.
- Responsible for the county jail and the prisoners in the jail.
- Attend County Council sessions and execute their orders.
- Execute orders from the County Commissioners.

Applications for gun permits may be obtained and accepted at the Parke County Jail 7 days per week, 22 hours per day with the exception of 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Vehicle identification checks can be done 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
